What to Bring

Home

Clothing

Lake Superior’s weather is generally colder and windier than the adjacent land.  Therefore, it’s advisable to bring clothes for both cold and hot weather.
- Cold weather: (50˚F & windy on the water) - Warm jacket, sweatshirt, gloves, wool socks, rain gear, non-marking sneakers, extra jeans, hat.
- Warm weather: (sunny & 75˚F on the shore) - Windbreaker, shorts, Tee shirts, hat, non-marking sandals.
Storage space in the boat is limited, so please limit your personal items, except the sleeping bag, to one soft-sided duffel bag.
We have on the boat US Coast Guard-approved PFD’s – Type I and Type V’s - (you may bring your own PFD if you prefer), binoculars, VHF radio, and navigation charts.

Gear and Personal Items
- Sleeping bag, pillow, towels, wash cloth, toiletries.
- Sun screen, Dramamine or “motion-sickness patch”, bug repellant.
- Prescription medications (enough for 1 extra day).
- Camera, sun glasses, small flashlight, cell phone (limited coverage on the water).

Storage space in the boat is limited, so please limit your personal items, except the sleeping bag, to one soft-sided duffel bag.

Food

In general, we will eat 1 or 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and a dinner on the boat.  Further details about food likes and dislikes should be discussed on the phone with the Captain.
- Snack foods:  fruit, granola bars, chips, cookies, trail-mix, soda pop, etc..
- Water:  generally bottled water: about 1-2 quarts per person per day.
- The IGA grocery store in Washburn has a wide selection of fresh and perishable items that can be picked up Friday night or Saturday morning.  There are some staples on the boat, notably cooking oil, butter, salt/pepper, mustard/catsup and a few spices.
- Food storage:  The boat has a small refrigerator that will keep meat, milk or other perishables.  An insulated storage chest (ice chest) is also available for drinks.
- Food preparation:  The boat has a two-burner propane stove, with oven, and a “kettle-style” propane-heated BBQ grill.  The galley has two sinks with running water (from about 70 gal storage tanks), and an assortment of cooking utensils, including large and small pots, fry pans, mixing bowls, a coffee pot, and knives for food preparation.   We have enough plates, knives, forks, spoons, glasses and coffee cups for eight.

Things not to bring

- Hard-sided suitcases.
- Laptop or PC (no place to charge when we leave shore power).
- Pets.

Other Rules of Note

PFD Rule
When the boat is under way, the captain and all crew/guests must wear a PFD in the cockpit and on deck.

Alcohol Rule
No alcohol may be consumed until the boat is anchored for the night.  On past cruises, we have enjoyed beer and/or wine with the Saturday night meal.  A wine aficionado is an especially valued crew member at this time.

Smoking Rule
No smoking in the cabin or cockpit of the boat.  Smoking is permitted only on the foredeck while we are anchored.

Any questions or concerns about any items or policies given here should be brought to the Captain's attention prior to the weekend of your cruise.
