Capt. Dave Shores welcomes you aboard ZaBreeNa, a 36 ft Sabre sloop docked at Pike’s Bay Marina 1.3 miles south of Bayfield, WI, for a weekend of sailing and sightseeing in the Apostle Islands.
Weekend Cruise:
Route taken depends on the weather and the wind direction, but popular destinations are: Stockton Is., Outer Is., Raspberry Is., Devil’s Is., Michigan Is. We have a small dinghy for trips ashore for hiking or visiting National Park Service sites.
Photo Cruise:
Our sailing plan will be designed around photo-opportunities: sunrises, sunsets, remote beaches, lighthouses, interesting nature settings. Route depends on customer preferences and the weather, especially the wind, but example destinations: Stockton Is.; Raspberry Is. or Michigan Is. (both have lighthouses); Devil’s Is. (sea caves) ; North or South Twin Is.
For either Cruise:
Typical itinerary: Board ZaBreeNa Friday night (after 5 PM), set sail Saturday morning, anchor overnight in the Apostle Islands, sail Sunday and return to marina by 3 PM.
Meals aboard ZaBreeNa: breakfast - Sat. and Sun., lunch - Sat and Sun., dinner - Sat. at anchorage. The meals are purchased and planned by the crew and the cost is shared. We have a galley with propane stove, oven, BBQ grill and refrigerator, as well as the usual pots, pans and dinner ware. For catered meals: call for prices.
We can accommodate five persons, depending on sleeping arrangements. The forward “Vee” berth sleeps two adults, in the main cabin there is a double berth for two adults and a single berth for one adult, and a “quarter berth” sleeps one adult. For more information see The Boat.
Day Sails:
For those with limited time, a day sail provides an easy and fun introduction to sailing in the Apostle Islands. We leave the dock at 10 AM and return around 5 PM. An example route would be to sail to Stockton or Raspberry Is., anchor in a cove for lunch, then return to the marina. Bring a lunch basket or pick up a box lunch at a local restaurant. For those so inclined, there will be opportunities to drive the boat and trim the sails, and don’t forget to bring a camera. Cancellation due to inclement weather will be determined at the dock prior to departure. Check the Calendar for available dates.
Due to safety concerns, children under the age of 12 are not allowed on either cruises or day sails.
Charter Rates:
- 2-day weekend, Friday evening to Sunday: $615 + $17.50/day for dinghy with outboard;
- 3-day weekend,Thursday evening to Sunday: $860 + $17.50/day for dinghy with outboard. Additional days are $250 + $17.50/day for dinghy with outboard.

See Calendar for open dates. A deposit of $325 is required to reserve a date. In all cases, the Wisconsin sales tax of 5.5% must be added. Payment may be made via PayPal using MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover cards. A 3% discount may be taken for payment by check or cash. The balance is due upon boarding.
Day Sail Rates:
The rate is $130 (+ Wisconsin sales tax), for 1 or 2 people plus $65 per person for additional people up to a maximum of 6; lunch is not included.
